An online petition has been launched to help change the mindset of the administration at County Hall in Northumberland to ensure driver safety becomes first and foremost to help protect drivers at a well known accident blackspot.
The petition launched on the County Council web site to try to get traffic lights installed at North Seaton roundabout to boost driver safety following a number of serious accidents over the years.
"Working in conjunction with Enid Wilson, Chair of Newbiggin Traders Association we are requesting Traffic Lights on North Seaton and Roundabout for peak times 7.30am - 9.30am then 4pm - 6pm.
It is very difficult to access the Roundabout at these times from all 5 directions but particularly Newbiggin/Ashington and Ashwood Business Park. Traffic lights would make it easier for all road users."
Local County Councillor Liz Simpson is a supporter of the petition she told us at Northumberland News “I wholeheartedly agree with this appeal and petition from Newbiggin by the Sea Traders Association as the problems associated with this roundabout certainly lower visitor numbers at peak times.” “people get aggravated when they sit in queues and often give in trying and go elsewhere”, “we have all seen the improvements at Moor Farm roundabout since the lights were introduced and we would like Ashington and Newbiggin main exit and egress route to enjoy the same safety and efficiency improvements made available here.”
